New York, NY - July 23, 2025, – New York City Mayor Eric Adams recently announced the return of the “Rise Up NYC” summer concert series, which will provide 10 free outdoor concerts to New Yorkers across all five boroughs this summer. Inspiring all New Yorkers to come together and celebrate the world’s greatest city, the Adams administration’s highly anticipated concert series will also feature shows in collaboration with the City Parks Foundation’s SummerStage and Globe Star Media, as it expands significantly for its fourth season. The concert series builds on Mayor Adams’ “We Outside Summer,” his initiative to ensure New Yorkers have a safe, enjoyable summer outside through a series of announcements, events, investments, and new programming across the five boroughs.
On Thursday, August 7th, legendary DJ, Radio Personality and Platinum Recording artist Funk Flex, will receive the ‘Entertainers’ Key to the City of New York’, from Mayor Adams. The presentation will take place in the borough of the Bronx, at Orchard Beach, with a celebratory performance in front of thousands of invited adoring fans.

ABOUT FUNK FLEX
Born in Bronx, NY in 1967, Aston Taylor known as Funk Flex was already a successful sought after club DJ when he began his radio career in 1992 as a mixer on WQHT/New York with the show he referred to as the "Friday Night Street Jam."
Funk Flex's simultaneous success at WQHT/New York and as a recording artist led him to move to nights at WQHT/New York in 1997/98 where he quickly became the city's top rated radio show. In 2016, Flex created a successful freestyle series that gets millions of views on YouTube called "Funk Flex Freestyles" where the biggest recording artists come to do a freestyle.
Flex has five gold albums with some of the biggest musicians of all-time. He is now Creative Program Director for WBLS/WQHT. Funk Flex always credits his mentors Chuck Chillout and Kool DJ Red Alert for hiring him as a fill-in DJ at WKRS/NY.
Flex still spins several times a week and is on the radio six days a week as his passion for reaching people through cars and social media grows stronger every day.
