In sad news, Julian Bond, Civil Rights Leader and former Chairman of NAACP, has passed away. He was 75.

Bond's passing was confirmed by the Southern Poverty Law Conference, who released their own statement today. Bond served as President of the SPLC from 1971 when it was founded by Morris Dees, until 1979, at which time he became a member of the Board of Directors. While attending Morehouse College, he co-founded the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, and later stepped into the chairman position for the NAACP. He was elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1965, going on to serve 20 years. President Barack Obama remembers Bond as a "hero". “Justice and equality was the mission that spanned his life – from his leadership of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, to his founding role with the Southern Poverty Law Center, to his pioneering service in the Georgia legislature and his steady hand at the helm of the N.A.A.C.P.. Julian Bond helped change this country for the better. And what better way to be remembered than that.”

Julian is survived by his wife, Pamela Horowitz, and his five children.

Cleveland’s own O'Jays are touring history, a connection to an era and a sound that formed the soundtrack for the lives of several generations. The O’Jays are still hitting the road with the same electrifying energy they’ve had for over 50 years.

Walter Williams and Eddie Levert first met when they were the ages of 6 and 7 respectively. As teenagers in Canton, Ohio, they formed a band originally consisting of Eddie Levert, Walter Williams, William Powell, Bobby Massey and Bill Isles.

In 1963, the band took the name "The O'Jays" in tribute to a Cleveland radio disc jockey, and over the years several members have changed, but the core, original lead singers Eddie Levert and Walter Williams, continue to front the group. In 1972, Gamble & Huff, a team of producers and songwriters with whom the O'Jays had been working for several years, signed the group to their Philadelphia International label.

With this magic formula, often called The Sound of Philadelphia, The O’Jays scored the first #1 and million seller, “Backstabbers.” Subsequently, they succeeded with various chart topping pop and R&B singles. Including “Love Train”, “Put Your Hands Together”, “For The Love of Money”, “I Love Music”, “Darlin’ Darlin’ Baby (Sweet, Tender, Love)”, “Livin’ For The Weekend” and! “Use Ta Be My Girl.” This success propelled The O’Jays to be the first black vocal group to perform in arenas throughout America during the 70s and 80s.

The O'Jays were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2005, the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2005 and honored with BET's Life Time Achievement Award in 2009. In 2013, they were inducted into The Official R&B Music Hall of Fame. Today, the songs of The O’Jays are still being used in many movies commercials and TV shows. “For The Love of Money “continues to be the theme song for “The Apprentice.”

WEtv's Cutting It In The ATL Finale Debuted Mushiya's Controversial Natural Hair Anthem to End Season 1 of Hit Reality Show....

July 17, 2015 (ATLANTA)-The season finale of the runaway hit reality show Cutting It In the ATL marked the beginning of a new chapter for the show's breakout star, Mushiya Tshikuka. To close out the inaugural season of the network's popular new show, WEtv featured the behind-the-scenes shoot for Mushiya's debut video for "Runway Curls." Specially created to launch her line of 100% human Ethiopian textured extensions, the song showcases her prowess as a vocalist over a high-energy dance track with House flair and a touch of Afro Beat produced by Mushiya's husband Lou Smith. Blending Mushiya's love of music, fashion, beauty and natural hair into an audiovisual experience gave WEtv another avenue to feature and set Mushiya apart from the other stylists on Cutting It In the ATL.The video in its entirety is now available on Youtube.

Shot on location in Atlanta at CoCo Studio, the video features Mushiya against regal backdrops with a modern edge. Flanked by gorgeous dancers rocking signature styles created by Mushiya and her team at The Damn Salon, the video is a celebration of texture and fashion. Featuring custom dresses from Mushiya's home country of the Congo, each model rocks a style created with Runway Curls hair including chic City AfroUrban Twists in shades of trendy gray; the wavy Messy Bitch texture in ombré blonde; pretty Playboy in strawberry blonde and honey highlights; and Dirty Girl, edged up with lowlights of teal and indigo.

"We're the voices of a New Era in natural hair," Mushiya shares. "Everything I do-from the salon to the show to the music-is about celebrating women, celebrating their beauty in every form. I want women, especially those with natural hair, to be proud of their texture and to see it can be fun and sexy-- just rock out with it!" "Runway Curls" lyrics issue a challenge to the mainstream beauty standards, and encourages women with an anthem devoted to natural hair.

During the season finale, fans of the show not only saw Mushiya's video, but also discovered the response of the other stylists on the show to this new form of promotion from their castmate. The finale tied the drama of the season into a must-see resolution that left the hundreds of thousands of Cutting It In the ATLaficionados clamoring for Season 2.

As a creative partner, Rihanna will design multiple seasons of her signature women's collection throughout a multi-year partnership with Stance.

"I've had a great relationship with Stance for a long time and ‎I am happy to be working with them on such a fun and creative project," said Rihanna. "This is an exciting new venture."

Kimberly M. Chapman, Founder of Sheen Magazine

The weekend is very much about Publisher Kimberly M. Chapman. As Founder of Chapman Foundation, Co-Founder of Nairobi Professional Products, and Publisher of Sheen Magazine, Chapman has set the bar for outstanding journalism, and set true precedent in an industry that has struggled in terms of presenting quality material when many publications are closing their doors, due inevitably to a decrease in subscribers and magazine-buyers, Sheen has remained prominent in the community, reaching more by the years to come. Chapman has made power-moves in the Beauty, Entertainment, and Publishing industries that have made the accomplishments of those behind her come a lot easier. Much of this weekend and it's festivities are about celebrating Chapman and her many accomplishments, as well as her Golden birthday

It will all be a night that will be long-remembered.
