Coko Lynn - Booking Agent Extraordinaire

One look at Coko Lynn and her career as a Booking Agent Extraordinaire, and it’s pretty easy to see why she is as successful as she is at this business. I first met Lynn close to a decade ago, as we were planning an issue launch party in the Atlanta area. Even then, I looked at her as The GOAT of the PR world. What caught my eye instantly was how she balanced her workload. She had many clients, and I could see that she had taken the time to build relationships with them. It wasn’t just a business relationship. In a sense, they were like family, and you could see just how much they trusted even down to their personal affairs. It was like something I had never seen before.

Aside from this, I could see how much work she put into their careers. When she spoke, it was clear that not only did she know what she was talking about, she loved her career, and that love is what built her name in this business.  She’s been my publicist since that moment.

We’ve featured Coko Lynn on a cover some years back, and as we enter the new year, it was time to hit you with a new cover. She has so many new things going on, and most importantly, out relationship has grown tremendously since that first moment. This is a much-needed opportunity for you to get to know Coko Lynn!

U.G. Digital Magazine: To get things started, I first have to thank you on so many levels. We’ve come so far together, and the time has truly flown by. We come full circle now because we featured you some years back on the cover. It’s awesome to have you again, and I can’t thank you enough

The publicist life is clearly keeping you busy. I’m always in awe of how you manage it all with you having so many clients. There’s so many other branches of bright star as well, so I’m just amazed at how you keep it going and even stay so high spirited through it all. Tell me how that works for you?

Coko Lynn:: It works through meditation, prayer, and balancing life.

U.G. Digital Magazine: Just to give our newer readers a brief lesson, and refresh some of the vets, talk about how you first entered the PR world.

Coko Lynn: I have been in the entertainment business for over 25 years. I started off modeling and acting after years of being in front of the camera. I decided I wanted to be behind the scenes which led me to becoming a booking agent, casting director, manager, and PR .

U.G. Digital Magazine: You’ve definitely been in it some time, and so much has changed when it comes to handling the lives of your clients. What has kept you motivated to continue doing it? How have you sustained?

Coko Lynn: What has kept me motivated is seeing my clients dreams come true. I have sustained myself by becoming one with nature and traveling the world.

U.G. Digital Magazine: What has been your biggest struggle in this business? On the contrary, talk about your successes?

Coko Lynn: My biggest struggle was learning the do's and don’ts of the entertainment industry because it can be a dirty game. But all of that helped me to teach my clients how to maneuver through it so they can be successful. So that is my success: helping people.

U.G. Digital Magazine: Much like anyone starting their business, I imagine you came into this with ideas of what you felt you wanted to accomplish as a publicist. Looking back, do you think those goals were realistic, and have you been able to accomplish that?

Coko Lynn: Yes, looking back I can pat myself on the back because I didn't think I would accomplish so much being in the entertainment industry. Some goals were realistic, some were not but I was able to accomplish a lot of those goals by putting in the work, having faith and believing it would happen. Now that I have changed my way of thinking I am manifesting everything I want.

U.G. Digital Magazine: What do you feel are the top three qualities of a publicist? And what skill is non-negotiable when it comes to handling your clients’ careers?

Coko Lynn: I would say the top qualities of a publicist are professional, responsive, helpful and friendly.

U.G. Digital Magazine: Going back to changes in the business, there’s a lot of differences when it comes to artists as well. Many now are kinda running their own careers which could almost mean less need for a publicist if they truly know what they’re doing. Has that affected your business?

Coko Lynn: They have to be passionate about their career.

U.G. Digital Magazine: What other things have affected business? What about the pandemic? How were you able to maneuver that?

Coko Lynn: No, it has not affected my business at all. We actually have classes and consulting to help people learn how to market themselves. The pandemic affected my business in a major way. But it also gave us time to revamp and implement a lot of new things.

U.G. Digital Magazine: So what advice do you offer to new publicists?

Coko Lynn:: I would tell them to always be professional and to network.

U.G. Digital Magazine: What new can we expect from bright star?

Coko Lynn:: We got a lot of requests for us to bring back the Bright Star Tour so we will see what 2023 brings.

U.G. Digital Magazine: Any type of final comments?

Coko Lynn:: Never give up.
