Rapper Shawty Lo Dead at 40...

Shock is only one of the many emotions friends, family, and fans are feeling this morning at the sad news of the death of Atlanta rapper Shawty Lo. Among that reality are also feelings of pain, lostness, and overwhelming grief. The 40-year old rapper was killed shortly after midnight on September 21, 2016 in what is now being detailed by media as a single vehicle crash. The Game, 1992

The Game, 1992

Compton rapper The Game is thrilled to announce that the pre-order to his forthcoming 1992 album is now available along with his new single and instant-grat track "True Colors/It's On." The 1992 album is set to be released on October 14th via Entertainment One Music/5th Amendment/Blood Money.  The Game is currently on the road for his national 1992 Block Wars Tour which kicked off August 31st in Los Angeles with stops in Dallas, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, Portland and many other major cities.  Full track listing and upcoming tour dates included below.

For his new hard hitting single "True Colors/It's On," Game flips Ice-T's classic "Colors" to reveal vivid, intimate details of his own upbringing in Compton. Produced by Bongo Da Drum Gawd, The Game further delves into his childhood and life of gang banging during a time of the nation's high racial tensions.

The Game explains, "1992 was inspired by what was going on in my life, my city & the world when I was 12 years old coming into my teenage years: The Los Angeles Riots, Michael Jordan & the Dream Team who won Olympic Gold... Crips & bloods were pulling me in both directions & joining one of the gangs was almost a normality for a young African American male growing up in Compton & the surrounding areas of Los Angeles County... Rodney King getting abused by the cops was an unforgettable incident & caused mass hysteria worldwide & the famous OJ Simpson car chase/trial was a huge worldwide televised situation that racially divided a country... So these are some of the many topics based around my childhood touched on in this album. To understand my life you have to understand what I've been thru, live where I've lived & watch lives of people you loved get erased because of their colors. #1992"

What more could one need after a tall glass of lemonade? Could a response album be in the works from rapper Jay-Z? Sources are hinting at just that. If speculation is correct, the rapper may indeed be working on a full album in response to Beyoncé’s hit album “Lemonade”, which saw a surprise release nearly two weeks ago.

Beyoncé dropped the album, which instantly soared to the top of the Billboard charts, exclusively via Tidal 2 days before it was released via streaming giants like iTunes, Spotify, Google Play. The album, which chronicles the supposed strife in their marriage following alleged cheating, caused a fire storm of rumors, including who Beyoncé was referring to in the lyrics “he better call Becky with the good hair”. Of course, Beyoncé has been mum about the situation. Currently, she can be seen out on her Formation tour, which kicked off a week ago in Miami, FL.

“Lemonade” is currently available via most online streaming services.

Just after promoting his new Christmas offering, Anthony Hamilton is back, this time with a 12-track set that is sure to set the industry ablaze. Led by the melodic tune “Amen”, Hamilton is digging deep into his emotions and sharing both his pain and happiness with this LP. He’s dealt with so much throughout the past year, most significantly his divorce, and it’s easy to see that this album was his way of releasing and coming to grips with it all.

Hamilton worked with a few familiar names on this LP who have helped him throughout the years in building, including Salaam Remi, James Poser, and Mark Batson, who has worked with a who’s who of entertainers throughout the years, and contributed heavily to Hamilton’s 2003 So So Def release, Comin’ From Where I’m From.

On a personal note, it’s always great to get new music from Anthony Hamilton. With each release, he ventures down new avenues, trying different things with his music, and it always results in multiple masterpieces that long-resonate with his fanbase. Examples of that include “Never Letting Go”, which features Vince Gill, and “Ain’t No Shame” with Gary Clark, Jr. Personally, I’m loving “What I’m Feelin” which features the Hamiltones.

It’s difficult to single out specific tracks as standouts, because truthfully, the entire album gels quite nicely. What’s nice with Hamilton is that while you’ve come to know what to expect with his releases, the flip side is that you still get something new each time around. He makes it a point to deliver what his fanbase has come to expect while still evolving with the industry and times. Fans will thoroughly enjoy “What I’m Feelin’”.

The Art of Organized Noize Hits Netflix...

The Art of Organized Noize Hits Netflix...

For all you Dungeon Family fans, you’ll be happy to see the new documentary that recently hit Netflix. Executive produced by Queen Latifah's & Shakim of Flavor Unit and directed by Quincy "QD3" Jones III, The Art of Organized Noize will give you a play by play of their storied rise to fame.

The documentary opens with Joi Gilliam describing the ONP sound just as millions of fans across the world know it: unapologetically black, unapologetically southern, gutter, funky, thoughtful, sophisticated, fearless, and fuckin' bad ass. Most would undoubtedly agree with her comments. The collective, comprised of Rico Wade, Sleepy Brown, and Ray Murray, became the driving force behind groups like Outkast, Goodie Mob, and all the other acts who would eventually become a part of the Dungeon Family. Their movement was one that the world of music took notice of, and in many ways tried to emulate time and time again. Their nurturing of Outkast, even when the group had been turned away on multiple occasions, led to Big Boi and Dre eventually signing to LaFace Records, and it catapulted Organized Noize Productions to unspeakable fame and success.

Their subsequent work with groups like Goodie Mob, Cool Breeze, Backbone, and Witchdoctor would solidify their names in music, and allow them to navigate their own lanes to amazing career heights. Rico Wade takes you on a personal tour of the infamous "Dungeon", which served as their own production launching pad. You hear & see first hand accounts from the likes of Pebbles, LA Reid, Big Boi, Andre 3000, Big Rube, Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs, Cool Breeze, Joi Gilliam, members of Goodie Mob, Bryan Michael Cox, and so many others. Marquez Etheridge tells the story behind the smash hit Waterfalls, the hit single that took ale of their sophomore album from 2, while Puff Daddy tells the story behind Outkast’s first video, “Player’s Ball”. So many people still don't realize that he directed the group's debut visual. Even for those who have followed Organized Noise from the beginning, there’s so much to learn about the Atlanta collective. The artists they’ve produced for over the years is nothing short of amazing. They’ve provided the backdrop on hits for so many, including TLC, EnVogue, Toni Braxton, Ludacris, and the list goes on.

Later in the documentary, you'll see what it took to maintain their fame, and how pressure, money, and drugs began to separate the crew and slow things to a screeching halt. You'll also see what brought it all back together and helped them to evolve into the bigger powerhouse they've come to be. Current generation artists like Future, 2 Chainz, Sonny Digital, and Metro Boomin also weigh in on the overall influence of Organized Noize and how it helped them to grow in their own careers.

The Art of Organized Noize is definitely a must-see for followers, as well as any artist/group out today working to build the same type of success with their own respective crews. Not only is it a story and history of hip-hop in Atlanta; it's also a story of three friends who conquered the world together, fell apart, and the happy ending of them putting it back together and reviving their magic. They ultimately showed what it took to bring a crew like Dungeon Family together and build success, and most importantly, they showed that black artists could work together with one common goal without the unnecessary drama. Organized Noize created their own sound and built a sense of unity among the city of Atlanta that still lives strong today.

The Art of Organized Noize is currently available and streaming via Netflix.

NEW YORK, NY – OCTOBER 26, 2015 – VH1 has set the airdate for its next original movie "The Breaks," continuing a successful push into scripted programming for the channel.  Set in New York City in 1990, "The Breaks"will premiere onMonday, January 4 at 9PM ET/PT.

"The Breaks" will chronicle the journey of Nikki (Afton Williamson),David (David Call) and DeeVee (Mack Wilds), three friends united by their love of hip-hop, as they work to make their big mark in the music industry. The film will travel viewers back to the summer of 1990 in New York City where the music industry's artists and hustlers intersect in the dance clubs and the street corners of the still crime-ridden city.

Nikki Jones is a brilliant recent grad who abandoned a scholarship to law school to pursue her dream of becoming a record exec.  Her boyfriend, David Aaron, is the scrappy son of a legendary music producer who is unwilling to rest on his father's laurels and notorious reputation.  DeeVee is an aspiring producer on the hunt to find the next big rapper on the come-up. Nikki fast talks her way into an internship at the premier hip-hop company, Fouray Entertainment and catches the eye of the label's infamous founder, Barry Fouray (Wood Harris) while David struggles at the city's top R&B radio station whose celebrity DJ refuses to program real hip-hop. Meanwhile, DeeVee returns to his roots in the Fort Greene projects to scout for talent and runs into Ahm (Antoine Harris), a drug dealer with a lyrical gift whose talent could bring them all to the next level.  But they will soon discover lives can be broken as fast as legends can be born.

Inspired by the book by journalist Dan Charnas entitled "The Big Payback," a narrative history of the hip-hop business, "The Breaks" is written, directed and executive produced by Seith Mann ("The Wire," "The Walking Dead," "Homeland") with a story by Mann and Charnas. Contemporary soul singer Christopher Williams was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. The nephew of jazz legend Ella Fitzgerald decided to become a singer after sitting with his aunt Ella, Frank Sinatra and Count Basie after a show. With talent in his genes and the desire to be a great recording artist, Christopher Williams emerged during the late 1980s, as a recording artist for Geffen Records. He released his debut album, entitled “Adventures in Paradise”, in 1989. The singles “Talk To Myself” and “Promises, Promises” reached the R&B Top 10 charts, and Christopher’s soulful, powerful voice made him stand out among his peers. In 1991, he landed his first acting role portraying Kareem Akbar, appearing alongside Wesley Snipes and Ice-T in the pop culture movie hit, New Jack City. His single from the soundtrack of the same name, “Dreamin’” turned gold and became a #1 single on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks charts. His 1992 Uptown Records album “Changes” featured the hits “All I See”, "Every Little Thing" and "Come Go with Me." The album peaked at sixty-three on the U.S. Billboard 200 and reached the twelfth spot on the R&B Albums chart. In 1995 the album “Changes” was followed up by “Not a Perfect Man” on Giant Records. This album brought a new direction for Williams; his first album as sole Executive Producer uses elements of reggae, R&B, hip-hop and country. In 2001, after a six year hiatus the album “Real Men Do” was released on the indie label Renegade, receiving rave reviews from Ebony Magazine and many other notable publications.

As Christopher’s career progressed, he continued to make strides in music and acting. After appearing in the movie New Jack City, he became increasingly interested in acting and began to focus on the performing arts in television, film and theater.  In the 1990’s he had a cameo appearance in the popular police drama, New York Undercover as "the singer," performing "Stranger In My Life," in the episode entitled "The Shooter." He had another cameo in Gunmen, starring Christopher Lambert and Mario Van Peebles, also singing the "Stranger In My Life".

He’s also starred in over thirty successful off-Broadway Gospel theatre productions during the 2000s, including “A Good Man is Hard to Find”, “A House is Not a Home”, “Men Cry in the Dark”, and “The Man He Used to Be”.  Williams played a main character in the stage play “The Clean Up Woman”, written by JD Lawrence, and played alongside actress Telma Hopkins and Jackee. Williams also appeared in plays “Guilty Until Proven Innocent”, starring K-Ci & JoJo, and “The Man of Her Dreams”, starring Shirley Murdock and Dave Hollister of Blackstreet fame.

Christopher Williams continues to stay relevant and popular among his millions of fans and followers. Working harder than ever in between plays and touring, he’s currently recording his much anticipated, fifth solo album and in the studio with superstar producers Ced Solo, Mike City, Da Internz, Carvin & Ivan, Eddie F and 9th Wonder

Just when they thought it was all over, they’ve been given another chance at stardom. It’s up to them to turn the opportunity into something meaningful. That’s the premise of the new TV One docu-series, “The Next 15”.

Starring Tiffany “New York” Pollard, Claudia Jordan, Karamo Brown, Raymond “Benzino” Scott, Laura Govan, and Jennifer Brown, ‘The Next 15” will give a behind-the-scenes look into the process of creating a reality show. The doc-series will capture the many issues that present personal challenges and block their opportunities for a successful return to fame.

The show is being produced by RHOA producer Carlos King, and will debut on the TV One Network before year’s end.
