Legendary Musician David Bowie Dies at 69
As the year has started to take off, music has lost yet another legend. David Bowie has passed away following a battle with cancer. He was 69.
Bowie's death was confirmed by a statement released/posted via his social media accounts:
"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18 month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during their time of grief."
Bowie led a groundbreaking career as a recording artist, releasing his self-titled debut in 1967. Over the years, he's released more than 25 albums, with his last, 'Stardust", hitting retailers just 2 days ago.
Bowie was highly influential in music amongst his peers, especially those in the hip-hop and R&B community. Many of his songs like 'Under Pressure", "Fame", and "Soul Love" were sampled by the likes of Charli Baltimore & Ma$e, Full Force, J. Dilla, Jay-Z, Ice Cube, O.D.B., and a long list of others. Most will immediately remember his hit 'Let's Dance", which was sampled in 1997 by Puff Daddy for the smash "Been Around the World" featuring Ma$e and The Notorious B.I.G..
