If today was any indication of what's to come, the Ohio Hip Hop Awards ceremony this coming Sunday is going to be off the hook!! Today was an amazing day in itself, with Cuyahoga Community College hosting the second annual Hip Hop Homecoming.
With Eric Wilson of Scratch Paper Productions mastering the duty of hosting, there were a variety of things taking place throughout the event, but the best thing about it was you got a sense of all the local hip hop community entailed. The event stared off with an open mic session, which featured some of the city's best unsigned talent. They may not be known nationwide yet, but they definitely brought their own respective following with them, and it was a time to remember.
We had the opportunity to speak to a few of them, including Bre, Antoine Williams, Sista Slim, Kid Nvy, Pat Warner, Tommy Lucky Lejuan, and Zero2Aphiniti, who hands down is one of the dopest female emcees I've heard in a long time. There were rappers, singers, wordsmiths who offered spoken word, and so many others.
That was all just the beginning. Throughout the hot & sunny afernoon, we were also blessed with performances from Preme Dibiasi, Ray Jr., Big Mucci of 71 North, and none other than Twista, who came out at the close of the event.
It's great to have events like this here in the city. It's definitely a way at bringing us all together for one common accord, and that's great music. There were various vendors set up, as well as free food for all concert-goers. Also set up with their own display were local radio giants Voice It Radio, who offered a LIVE broadcast from the event. Its always cool to see EP, Most Electrifyin, and Miss Myckie doing their thing in the air! The event in a nutshell was nothing less than amazing and it all just shows the world that Ohio is at the top of the hip hop world.
